Use your Agenda Book. Use your agenda book each and everyday. Color coding is a good way to organize your assignments. The following color code is suggested:
Red--Homework and Assignments
Blue--Tests and Quizzes
Black--In-Class Work
Green--Activities and Extras
Purple--Study
Make academics a priority. Doing homework takes time and effort. Be sure to set aside enough time to do your work. Do your best work.
Use Flash/Study Cards. Some things just need to be memorized. This is especially true when it comes to vocabulary. Use flash cards or a mnemonic like Roy G. Biv to remember the colors of the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, blue, indigo, violet).
Set a Schedule. Do your homework at the same time and same place each day. This might be right after dinner. Do not wait until late at night to start your work.
Manage your Time. Many projects and papers will require long-range planning. First do homework that is due the next day, then work on longer-term assignments. Start projects early to make sure you do your best. Do not wait until the last minute.
Focus. Turn off the radio, iPod, TV, and cell phone while you work. Friends may be distracting during homework time.
Pack it Up. Pack your bookbag before you go to bed so that you do not forget anything in the rush of the morning.
Ask for help. If you need help with understanding something, ask. Ask the teacher, your parents or a friend.
