The Interactive Student Notebook (ISN)
What is an Interactive Student Notebook and What Will Go in It?
The ISN is where students will keep their notes, graphic organizers, and a record of their thinking through writing. Students will be able to personalize it using their creativity.
How Will it Be Organized and Maintained?
For ease of grading and organization, the notebook will be kept in chronological order. Each student will create a Table of Contents in the front of the book and will add to it throughout the year. Students will have to consistently update thier notebook and Table of Contents.
Each page will have a title, date, and page number.
There should be no ripped out or torn pages.
Who Will Have to Use The ISN?
This year, each student will be required to create and maintain an ISN in RELA.
Why Do We Have to Use It?
The ISN will help you to become a creative, independent, and reflective
thinker and writer throughout the year.
It is a place for you to express your own ideas and process or apply the information and skills learned
in class
When and Where Will We Use This?
The notebook will be used, every week, if not every day in class. It may also be used out of class to review, process and study.
Students are to keep the notebook in their binder and bring them to RELA class every day.
How will the ISN be Evalauted?
The notebook will be evaluated at least twice a quarter if not more. There may also be unannounced spot checks of the notebook. Complete evaluation procedures will be given to students.
